Hi and welcome to my site! I work in radio and I hope to answer some of your questions about the radio business. This business is based on demographics and listening patterns. Everything radio stations do is geared to the target demo. For example, if you have a classic rock station, you would program it to attract males 25-54 because these are the people who listen to classic rock. Your advertisers would know this and the products they sell would target males 25-54..you would try to sell them things they wanted, like cars and concert tickets. You wouldn't advertise on that type of station if you were selling womens make-up products, because you wouldn't reach your target demo...thats how radio works.

Advertising is a strange business and people just jump into it and wonder why it doesn't work. Advertising only works if you sell to your target demographic, have an advertising budget, and have creative ways to sell your product or services..BE CREATIVE..it works, just look at the Taco Bell dog...you have seen the commercials..they hit the target demo (young people)..they have a budget (you have seen the commercial a thousand times)..they used a creative idea (a talkng dog)...enough said!
